Tailor's wadding is a non-woven fabric with a low basis weight (surface mass). It is specifically designed for the semi-traditional and traditional interlining of tailor-made jackets and suits. Positioned on the chest canvas, this wadding provides essential cushioning and slight volume, allowing for precise shaping of the chest area. It is entirely non-fusible, requiring fixation by manual stitching or machine padding.
Place the wadding on the chest canvas (hair canvas interlining) at the chest and shoulder areas. Shaping is achieved through the combined action of moist heat (steam) and the iron, allowing the wadding and canvas to be molded before assembly. The objective is to integrate the natural curve of the bust into the interlining.
Fix the wadding exclusively by hand-stitching, using appropriate slip stitches or herringbone stitches, to secure the layers without making them stiff. The predominantly synthetic composition (Polyester/Viscose) requires not exceeding moderate iron heat. Always perform a test on a scrap piece.
Product Nature: Non-woven product.
Alternative: A contemporary alternative to traditional horsehair wadding.
Grainline (Droit-Fil): As the product is non-woven, there is no inherent grainline to follow.
Storage: Store flat or rolled (without sharp creases) away from humidity to maintain the integrity of the batting.
Protection: No special protection is required when handling the product.
Composition: 55% Polyester, 30% Viscose, 15% Wool.
Weight: 80 g/m2.
Width (Laize): 150 cm.
Treatment: Non-thermo-adhesive (Non-fusible).
Resilience: Low to medium, designed for semi-rigid shaping.
Color: White.
Prioritize professional dry cleaning only. Do not use bleach. Prefer air-drying. The wadding will not withstand tumble drying.
Iron at a low temperature or use a press cloth (patte-mouille) to prevent the fusion of synthetic fibers.
