Hat blocks · Bespoke

A block that exists
for you alone.

Bespoke prototyping, 3D scanning, remaking — we design your lime wood hat block, from the idea to the finished piece.

Do you have a model in mind that resembles nothing on the market? An old block to reproduce, an original design to realise? This service covers two strands, from the first sketch to the finished block — with us as your single point of contact.

Strand 1

Bespoke prototyping & creation

Starting from an idea, a sketch or a photo to create a bespoke millinery block that does not yet exist.

Strand 2

3D scanning & remaking

Digitising an existing block to duplicate it, modify it or restore it digitally before remaking it as new.

Part 1

Bespoke prototyping and creation

The process, step by step.

01

Step 01 — Getting in touch

Send us your project

It all starts with an email. No need to be a designer — a sketch dashed off by hand, a reference photo or a simple description will do. What matters is conveying your intention: the silhouette, the volume, the spirit of the hat.

You can send us: a freehand sketch, a photo of an existing hat, an AI/PDF/SVG file, a 3D file.

Useful details: the dimensions you want (head circumference, crown height, brim width), the intended use, the quantity envisaged.

Don't worry if your brief is incomplete — we will ask the right questions.

Step 02 — Design

3D modelling

Our 3D artist takes on the digital modelling of your block. It is a work of interpretation: moving from an idea, a sketch or a photo to a precise 3D model that can be machined.

We work in iterations: a first 3D visual is produced quickly to confirm the overall intention before going into detail. You are in the loop from the outset.

03

Step 03 — Approval

Feedback and adjustments

You receive 3D visuals of your block from several angles. A period of exchange then begins — by email, and by video call if you wish: proportions, curves and dimensions adjusted together in real time.

There is no limit to the number of rounds. We move to manufacturing only once you are fully satisfied.

What you approve in 3D is exactly what gets machined. No interpretation, no unpleasant surprise on delivery.

Step 04 — Manufacturing

Machining and delivery

Once the model is approved, the block is machined from lime wood in the workshop of our manufacturing partner Labs10. Machining is done by a 7-axis robot to within half a millimetre, then each block is sanded and varnished by hand.

The overall time also depends on the exchange phase — that is normal, and often the sign of work done properly.

Part 2

3D scanning & remaking

Do you own an existing block — a prototype, an antique, a heritage piece, fragile or damaged — that you would like to reproduce, modify or simply preserve?

Duplication

Reproducing a block identically to preserve the original — ideal for rare, heritage or irreplaceable blocks.

Modification

Enlarging, reducing, adjusting the head size or altering the proportions of an existing block (from the Labs10 catalogue or one of your own).

Restoration

A chipped, warped or incomplete block — we can restore it digitally before remaking it as new.

Pricing

A quote for every project

Every block is a project of its own. Volume, size, finishes and quantity all affect the price: a fixed price list would tell you nothing about your case.

Send us your sketch, your photo or the block you want reproduced. We will study your request and send you a detailed quote, with no obligation.

Confidentiality & ownership

Our commitments

Exclusivity

Your block belongs to you

If you fund the development of a block, it is yours alone. Never added to the catalogue, never offered to other clients.

3D files

Ownership of the source files

The 3D source files we create remain archived with our manufacturing partner. If you supply your own 3D file, you retain full ownership of it.

Security

Data kept safe

Designs, sketches and files are archived on secure servers, accessible only to the production team. The workshop is closed to the public.

Discretion

Nothing made public

No photograph of your project will be published or shared without your explicit consent. Your creations stay secret until you launch them.
