Introduction

Tailoring canvas, or woolen canvas, is an essential interlining in the traditional construction of jackets and coats. This 220 gsm canvas is designed to structure the garment without adding bulk, acting as a flexible structural frame. Its composition of wool and viscose provides hold, resilience, and durability. It is manufactured in Italy according to high-quality standards.

This tailoring canvas, also referred to as wool canvas, is a heavy-duty interlining designed for pieces requiring a flexible structure and lasting hold. It plays a role in mechanical reinforcement without adding weight to the finished garment, ensuring the shape's longevity. This canvas provides both structure and comfort without excessive stiffness. It is made in Italy and sold by the linear meter.

Usage Recommendations

This canvas forms the foundation of traditional interlining. It is cut to the shape of the jacket front, and all other interlining components (chest piece, collar canvas, etc.) are basted to it by hand, creating a cohesive structure.

For optimal results and to prevent any subsequent deformation, it is strongly advised to pre-shrink the canvas with steam before working with it, in order to stabilize its fibers and prevent any future shrinkage. It is basted to the main fabric with temporary stitches to allow for adjustments. The interlining is placed on the wrong side (reverse side) of the main fabric and helps to maintain the lapel roll, define the shoulder line, and distribute the tensions of the outer fabric.

The interlining can be used layered with other canvases, such as the chest piece. Assembly stitches must be executed using catch stitches (or pad stitches) to avoid marking the face of the outer fabric. For lapel applications, hand pad-stitching is recommended to achieve a crisp, clean roll that turns well.
