The horsehair chest piece is a high-end interfacing canvas used in the making of tailored jackets. This product is woven on a mechanical loom, combining a rigid horsehair weft and a cotton warp. This composition gives it an ideal resilience and spring for garment structure. The chest piece is made in Italy and sold by the metre. The canvas width is between 40 and 45 cm, offering optimal adaptation for bespoke jacket interfacing.
This chest piece is used for traditional interfacing and reinforces the front parts of jackets, at the chest, shoulder and lapel. It is fixed by hand sewing onto the hair canvas. Herringbone stitches are particularly recommended for applying it without stiffening the garment, allowing the canvas and chest piece to "live" together. It is advisable to shape the chest piece to the desired form before sewing, particularly for the chest shaping and the lapel roll line. The chest piece can be sewn by hand or machine, using wide and loose stitches. It can be cut according to pattern needs and shaped with steam to follow the client's anatomy.
Storage: Store in a dry place, away from light and humidity to preserve the natural fibres.

Dry cleaning only. Pressing must be carried out with care, at a moderate temperature and without excessive steam, so as not to damage the fibres. A test on a small offcut is recommended. You can shrink your chest piece before use.
