This hair canvas, also called wool canvas, is a heavy interfacing designed for garments requiring a rigid structure and lasting hold. Its balanced composition and plain weave make it an essential support for heavy woolens, coats and historical costume making. It plays a mechanical reinforcement role without weighing down the work, ensuring the permanence of the shape. This canvas provides hold and comfort without excessive rigidity. It is made in Italy and sold by the linear metre.
It is strongly recommended to shrink the canvas before any cutting to stabilise its fibres and avoid any subsequent shrinkage. It is basted to the main fabric with temporary stitches, to allow adjustments. The interfacing is placed on the wrong side of the main fabric and maintains the collar lapel, defines the shoulder line and distributes the tensions of the outer fabric.
The interfacing can be used in combination with other canvases such as the chest piece. Assembly seams must be made with catch stitches so as not to mark the outer fabric. For lapel applications, manual under-stitching is recommended to achieve a neat and rolling lapel.
Storage: Store the hair canvas in a dry environment away from light to preserve its technical qualities.

Professional dry cleaning only. Pressing at moderate temperature, on the wrong side, using a press cloth. It is strongly recommended to shrink the canvas with steam before any use.
