Grain line tape - tailor's tight weave - 10 mm Black or White

Grain line tape is an essential reinforcement for the traditional interfacing technique in bespoke tailoring. Made from a narrow band of cotton, it is specifically designed to stabilise the edges and tension lines of garment pieces. This product is exclusively non-fusible, ensuring a supple and lasting integration without surface rigidity. Its plain weave facilitates blocking with an iron.

Usage advice

The tape is commonly used to bind the hair canvas (horsehair or other interfacing) to the main fabric, particularly around the fronts of jackets and facings. For shaping volumes (chest, jacket hem), the tape is pressed onto the wrong side of the fabric with an iron, often in conjunction with the hair canvas, before being permanently secured with invisible stitching or basting stitches.

Shrinking is imperative: Being 100% cotton, preliminary shrinking is strongly recommended to eliminate any risk of subsequent shrinkage that would distort the final shape of the garment. Immersing the tape for a few minutes in boiling water before pressing it dry with an iron ensures its dimensional stability during construction.

Fixing is carried out by hand sewing (catch stitch, side stitch) or by machine, taking care not to stretch the tape during assembly.

Care instructions

Do not wash without prior shrinking. Once integrated into the garment, the tape will follow the care instructions of the main fabric and hair canvas. Withstands standard dry cleaning operations. High-temperature pressing (cotton setting) is possible.
