The tailoring canvas, or wool canvas, is an essential interfacing in the traditional making of jackets and coats. This 280 g/m² canvas is designed to structure the garment without weighing it down, acting as a flexible framework. Its composition of wool, goat hair and viscose gives it hold, flexibility and durability. It is made in Italy according to high quality standards.
This tailoring canvas, also called wool canvas, is a heavy interfacing designed for pieces requiring a flexible structure and lasting hold. It plays a role of mechanical reinforcement without weighing down the work, ensuring the durability of the shape. This canvas provides hold and comfort without excessive rigidity. It is made in Italy and sold by the linear metre.
This canvas is the foundation of traditional interfacing. It is cut to the shape of the jacket front and all the interfacing pieces (chest piece, collar canvas, etc.) are basted onto it by hand, creating a coherent structure. For an optimal result and to prevent any later deformation, it is strongly recommended to shrink the canvas with steam before working with it, in order to stabilise its fibres and avoid any later shrinkage. Baste it onto the main fabric with temporary stitches, to allow adjustments. The interfacing is placed on the wrong side of the main fabric and helps to maintain the lapel, define the shoulder line and distribute the tensions of the outer fabric.
The interfacing can be used in superposition with other canvases such as the chest piece. The assembly seams must be made with floating stitches (catch stitches) so as not to mark the top fabric. For applications at the lapel, a manual under-stitching is recommended to obtain a clean lapel that turns properly.

Professional dry cleaning only. Press at moderate temperature, on the wrong side, using a press cloth. It is strongly recommended to shrink the canvas with steam before any use.
