Grain line tape for tailoring - 5 mm

Introduction

The straight grain stay tape is an essential reinforcement for the traditional interlining technique in bespoke tailoring. Made of a narrow cotton strip, it is specifically designed to stabilize the edges and the lines of tension of garment pieces. This product is exclusively non-fusible (non-iron-on), ensuring a flexible and durable integration without superficial stiffness. Its plain weave structure facilitates shaping and handling with the iron.

Usage Recommendations

The stay tape is commonly used to bind the canvas interlining (hair canvas or other interlining) to the main fabric, particularly around the perimeters of jacket fronts and facings. For shaping the volumes (chest, jacket bottom), the tape is "glacé" (or smoothly set) with the iron on the reverse side of the fabric piece, often in tandem with the canvas, before being permanently secured with invisible stitching or basting stitches.

Mandatory Shrinkage Pre-treatment (Sponging): As it is 100% cotton, pre-shrinking is strongly advised to eliminate any risk of subsequent shrinkage that would alter the final shape of the garment. Soaking the tape in boiling water for a few minutes before pressing it dry ensures its dimensional stability during the construction process.

Securing: The tape is secured by hand sewing (cross-stitch/catchstitch, or running stitch) or by machine, taking care not to stretch the strip during assembly.

Care Instructions
