Buckram is an essential reinforcement canvas in tailoring. Made of 100% cotton, it undergoes a stiffening treatment giving the rigidity needed for structural stabilisation of fabrics. Traditionally used, this sew-in buckram guarantees a lasting and non-deformable hold for parts under tension or requiring a precise drape (pockets, hems, fly fronts...).
Usage Advice
Buckram is recommended for non-fusible structural interfacing in the making of traditional jackets, coats and capes. It is mainly used to reinforce pocket openings (welt chest pockets, side pockets), sleeve bottoms and jacket and coat hems to ensure a clean line and impeccable drape.
For fixing, it is advised to use the catch stitch (or herringbone stitch) to secure the buckram to the main fabric, allowing solid hold while maintaining dynamic suppleness of the finished garment.
In cases requiring maximum rigidity (collar and lapel points), two layers of buckram can be superimposed. Light moistening before iron fixing can optimise shape retention from the stiffening.

Care Advice
Buckram should be treated according to the requirements of the main fabric on which it is mounted. We recommend dry cleaning for the finished garment to ensure preservation of the structure and stiffening.
Pressing at moderate temperature (two dots) on the wrong side of the garment to avoid damaging the stiffening. Use of a press cloth is recommended.
