In this new collection, Teresa Gilewska addresses beginners in fashion pattern making and amateur sewers wishing to learn how to create their own patterns independently.

The first two chapters of this volume 2 explain how to construct the straight sleeve pattern from measurements taken on the bodice armhole tracing and on the arm.

The following chapter shows how to apply various transformation techniques to this straight sleeve: placement of cutting lines, flaring of lines or cut segments, application of pleats or gathers..., in order to obtain the finished pattern of the target sleeve model (blouse, tailored jacket...).

Finally, the last chapters deal with the special cases of the kimono sleeve, whose pattern is constructed by extending the bodice pattern, and the raglan sleeve, whose sleeve head runs up to the neckline.

The main difficulty is not mastering the construction and transformation techniques, but knowing which ones to use to draft the pattern of the desired model. To help you acquire this know-how, the author explains, through 17 examples of sleeves in very varied styles, how to analyse each model in detail to determine which technique to use in each specific case.

The Author - Teresa Gilewska

After teaching pattern making in Poland, at a fashion school in China, then at a vocational school in Paris, Teresa Gilewska ran her own design studio in Paris until 2000. Since then, she has devoted herself exclusively to teaching and to the written transmission of knowledge essential to fashion industry professions. Her pattern making books have sold over 60,000 copies in France and have been translated into seven languages. Teresa Gilewska heads the FdM school (Formation de Mode) founded in 2014.
