Tailor's grain-line stay tape loose weave - 10 mm

The grain-line stay tape is an essential reinforcement for the traditional interfacing technique in tailoring. Made of a narrow band of cotton, it is specifically designed to stabilise selvedges and tension lines of garment pieces. This product is exclusively non-fusible, ensuring soft and lasting integration without superficial rigidity. Its plain weave facilitates shaping with the iron.

Usage tips

The stay tape is commonly used to link the tailoring canvas (hair canvas or other interfacing) to the main fabric, particularly around the perimeter of jacket fronts and facings. For shaping volumes (chest, jacket bottom), the tape is glazed with the iron on the wrong side of the fabric piece, often in tandem with the tailoring canvas, before being finally fixed with invisible stitches or basting stitches.

Mandatory shrinking: Being 100% cotton, prior shrinking is strongly recommended to eliminate any risk of subsequent shrinkage that would alter the final shape of the garment. Soaking the tape for a few minutes in boiling water before drying it with the iron ensures its dimensional stability during work.

Fixing is done by hand sewing (catch stitch, side stitch) or by machine, taking care not to stretch the tape during assembly.

Care instructions

Do not wash without prior shrinking. Once integrated into the garment, the tape will follow the care instructions of the main fabric and the tailoring canvas. Withstands usual dry-cleaning operations. High temperature ironing (cotton) possible.
