Wool Felt Capeline - Incarnadine Pink

An essential base material for hat making, this capeline is an unstiffened piece, directly from the fulling of the wool. It comes in a conical shape with a flat raw brim, ready to be shaped. Composed exclusively of pure sheep's wool, it offers an excellent felting density (120 grams) ensuring good hold after blocking and stiffening. This item is intended for professionals, milliner students and artisan hat makers requiring a quality support for the creation of wide-brimmed hats.

Tips for Use

• Preparation (Shaping) : The felt must be generously moistened with steam or by light soaking before any manipulation. The use of a stable steam source is recommended to soften the fibres and facilitate the controlled shrinkage necessary for shaping on the block.

• Blocking : The capeline is designed to be placed in shape on wooden blocks or specialised supports. Stretch the felt over the block to obtain the desired crown and brim. Fix firmly with blocking pins, cords and strings.

• Stiffener : Application of a liquid stiffener is necessary to give the felt the desired final rigidity, as this base is supplied without initial treatment. Choose a stiffener suited to the desired level of firmness (e.g.: permafix 50 or gum arabic).

• Cutting : The brim of the capeline (currently 8 cm) can be cut to the desired final size and bound or hemmed according to the style of hat envisaged.

Felt Care Tips

The following tips apply once the felt has been transformed into a hat, or to the base if it is handled:

• Brushing : Use a soft, clean brush. Always brush the felt in the same direction to maintain a uniform surface appearance.

• Dryness : In case of humidity (water or steam), let the felt dry naturally in the open air, at room temperature. Avoid any source of artificial heat (radiator, hairdryer, etc.) to prevent shrinkage or deformation.

• Cleaning : Light stains can be treated locally with a clean cloth that is very lightly moistened, without abrasive rubbing.
