The Pork Pie is defined by a low, flat crown characterised by a continuous peripheral (telescopic) groove on the top. Its compact structure requires even tension of the material during blocking to achieve a perfectly horizontal plateau and a crisp crown edge. It is an iconic shape that ensures a precise geometric silhouette. This model has an organic style and is entirely asymmetrical. The front, back, left side and right side are all different.

This porkpie crown is intended for blocking felts, straws and various millinery textile materials. It is entirely manufactured in France in Tergnier by labs10.fr, from French linden wood selected for its stability. The varnished finish provides protection against heat and moisture during steam work.

Usage advice

The crown is designed to be used alone or in combination with a brim. Although the varnish protects the wood, applying cling film before blocking is recommended to prevent any dye bleeding onto the block and to extend its durability. For mounting on a brim, the base is fitted with 6 symmetrical holes allowing the passage of metal blocking pins. It is compatible with French (10 cm), British (5 inches) and Australian (4 inches offset) standard spacings.

Block options

  • Without string groove: the height of the block is as specified in the technical specifications (above)

  • With string groove: the crown height is increased by 1 cm below the groove. For example, if the base block is 12 cm high in size 58, you will receive a 13 cm crown with the string groove.

  • With tipper: instead of using reed to block the shape, you simply press the tipper down with weights and let it dry. The tipper is printed in PETG, a plastic resistant to moisture and heat. You can place the block and tipper in an oven for drying at 60 degrees. Printed from the 3D file of the block, this guarantees that the tipper perfectly matches the block.

Care instructions

Clean with a dry cloth after each use to remove material or stiffener residues. Do not use solvent-based products that could damage the hat block. In case of excessive moisture, allow to air dry away from a direct heat source to prevent any warping of the wood. Store in a cool, dry place, on a flat surface when not in use. Do not heat the block above 100 °C.
