This pack is an educational supplies kit designed with milliner Nelly Bichet, for the preparation for the CAP Métiers de la Mode Chapelier Modiste (milliner) option diploma provided by Nelly Bichet (APPH Formation). It groups together all the materials required for the exercises of the curriculum. The kit is available with add-on options for lime wood hat blocks for the practice of blocking and shaping.
If you choose the supplies option:
- 250 ml of permafix 50 (textile stiffener)
- 200 gr of n°4 BOHIN argentine pins
- 10 m of synthetic wire (nylon thread) 1.6mm
- 5.5m of millinery wire 1.5mm in steel
- 1 capeline 180gr in wool felt colour magenta (photo 2)
- 1 capeline in ramie natural colour
- 1 capeline in sea rush natural colour
- 10 m of wheat straw natural colour
- 2 cones in wool felt, colour camel and cobalt blue (photo 2)

Textile stiffeners (Permafix 50): Use the stiffener to stiffen textile materials (felt, ramie). Application is done with a brush or by spraying onto the still damp piece or after partial drying. Respect the full drying time before any subsequent handling.
Armature (Synthetic wire and Millinery wire): Steel millinery wire is rigid and is used to create a stable and definitive hat brim structure. Synthetic wire offers superior flexibility and is recommended for temporary armatures or brims requiring some suppleness.
Raw materials (Capelines and Wheat straw): Wool felt or ramie capelines, as well as wheat straw, are intended for practicing steam blocking and straw sewing techniques. Make sure to uniformly moisten and/or steam the materials before working on the block.
Wooden blocks (Crown and Block stand): The round Crown is a basic block. It will allow you to create capelines, cloche hats, and also to shape by hand to create fedoras and fascinators. The Block stand is used to raise the block, allowing you to pull the material and pin to block it.
Wool felts and various straws must be stored flat and dry, sheltered from moisture and moths. Millinery wire and argentine pins must be kept in a dry place to prevent oxidation. Store Permafix 50 in its original container, tightly closed, sheltered from frost and intense heat. Hat blocks are made to order, there is a 3-week lead time for manufacturing (this lead time is reduced to 2 weeks for orders placed between September and October of the same year).
To make your wooden hat blocks last, remember to wrap in cling film or clean the block after use with a slightly damp soft cloth. Do not immerse. The varnish applied ensures protection against moisture. Avoid impacts that could damage the wood grain.
The kit is sold individually (complete kit) with or without additional options. The photographs presented on the product sheet are not contractual and may vary slightly depending on deliveries (shade variations of natural materials). This pack is reserved for the educational use of students of the CAP Chapelier Modiste training by Nelly Bichet/APPH.
